DEFIANCE Requires money
Big philanthropy funds national campaigns. They don’t pay for a Know Your Rights training in every neighborhood, pay rent for a local family after a parent is detained, or hire a lawyer to fight a city’s deal with ICE. Local giving circles can.
LOCALS know their NEEDS
People on the ground hear about a new detention center or a sheriff’s ICE deal before it makes the news. They know which neighbors are most at risk, which local groups can be trusted, and where to apply pressure.

Authoritarians win by pressuring a few big targets. A national org or a handful of donors can be squeezed or shut down. Hundreds of local giving circles, each with its own money and leaders, are much harder to stop.
How Outposts Work
A “leader” starts a circle in their area using our digital platform
Members give monthly, any amount
The circle meets monthly (Digitally or physically) and votes on where the money goes.

Pay stipends for part-time organizers so local groups have someone working on this every week.

Pay for local lawyers and bail so neighbors can fight unlawful arrests and challenge the government in court.

Deliver food, cover rent, and get families what they need when they’re targeted, so neighbors can count on each other when the government won’t help.

Fund election lawyers, poll worker drives, and fast response if results are disputed.

Pay for ads, mailers, and events that push county boards and city councils to protect residents and refuse to work with ICE.

Back local candidates for sheriff, DA, and county clerk who will stand up to Trump.
This is just a small example of investment areas. Outposts leaders are given a robust playbook to follow, created by leading Pro-Democracy strategists, and will be advised by DEFIANCE National on an ongoing basis.

We’re rolling out our first Outposts in Q4 2026 and will hopefully be going nationwide in early 2027.

DEFIANCE Outposts are meant to be complimentary to Indivisible Chapters and similar groups, not competitive with them. We hope Outposts become a useful tool to the many groups already out there doing incredible local work.
