DEFIANCE.org Mobilizes to Defend Whistleblowers,
as Trump Moves to Strip Protections
WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to alarming new revelations that the Trump administration is finalizing a rule to revoke protections for senior government whistleblowers, DEFIANCE.org announced a campaign to defend those who dare to speak truth to power.
The crackdown would give the White House sweeping latitude to retaliate against career officials who report illegal acts, political abuse of power, and other misconduct — silencing dissent and turning public service into personal servitude.
As part of its Weekly Spotlight, DEFIANCE.org hosted a powerful lineup of guests to address the threat and rally national support, including:
Glenn Kirschner, former federal prosecutor and host of Justice Matters
Allison Gill, founder of The Daily Beans and a former government whistleblower
Mark Zaid, award-winning attorney who has represented intelligence and national security whistleblowers
Libby Liu, CEO of Whistleblower Aid, which supports safe, legal whistleblowing
Stacey Young, Executive Director of Justice Connection
Simon Isaacs, founder of TaskForce and advocate for civic innovation
“Donald Trump wants to turn our civil servants into political serfs and punish them if they call out his illegal actions,” said DEFIANCE.org founder and former DHS chief of staff Miles Taylor. “This is a direct assault on the rule of law, so we’re going to defy it.”
To combat the crackdown, DEFIANCE.org announced three initiatives:
Whistleblower Defense Grants: Committing tens of thousands of dollars in legal defense support for brave government workers who expose wrongdoing.
A New Partnership with WhistleblowerAid.org: Formal collaboration to provide grassroots support to federal employees who pursue trusted legal pathways for blowing the whistle safely and legally.
Literal Whistleblower Mobilization: A campaign to distribute 10,000 whistles in immigrant communities across the U.S. as part of an initiative to peacefully resist ICE raids and government intimidation — turning the symbol of whistleblowing into a tool for real-time defense, in collaboration with TaskForce.us
“This is wartime, and we’re on the front lines” said Whistleblower Aid CEO Libby Liu during the Weekly Spotlight, adding that the administration’s actions are without precedent. “It’s pure intimidation. It’s pure fear…and in agencies, you’re seeing speech policing and loyalty tests.”
